Beyond the Average Elasticity – Applying Quantile Panel Regression to German Household Mobility Data
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper employs quantile panel regression to the study of fuel price elasticities. Contrasting with standard panel approaches, this method reveals the impact of explanatory variables across all points in the conditional distribution of the response variable while controlling for unobserved heterogeneity. Applying quantile panel regression to German household data demonstrates that fuel price elasticities are very high in magnitude – below -0.8 – for a small segment of households whose car mileage is low, but that this eff ect tapers off rapidly among households with higher car mileage. These fi ndings have implications for policy instruments that rely on estimates of fuel price elasticities, for example fuel taxation. JEL Classifi cation: C21, C23, D13, Q41

متن کاملHeterogeneity in the Rebound Effect: Further Evidence for Germany
Rebound effects measure the behaviorally induced offset in the reduction of energy consumption following efficiency improvements. Using both panel estimation and quantile regression methods on household travel diary data collected in Germany between 1997 and 2009, this study investigates the heterogeneity of the rebound effect in private transport. With the average rebound effect being in the r...
متن کاملBayesian Quantile Regression with Adaptive Lasso Penalty for Dynamic Panel Data
Dynamic panel data models include the important part of medicine, social and economic studies. Existence of the lagged dependent variable as an explanatory variable is a sensible trait of these models. The estimation problem of these models arises from the correlation between the lagged depended variable and the current disturbance. Recently, quantile regression to analyze dynamic pa...

This study estimates the intergenerational mobility of economic status in Japan from the perspective of international comparison. The intergenerational elasticity of earnings and income of offspring with respect to parental income is estimated using microdata from the 1993—2004 rounds of the Japanese Panel Survey of Consumers. The result of instrumental variables estimation suggests intergenera...
